Corfu : Day Five

Today we booked ourselves onto a day trip. A cruise that will take us to Parga and Paxos. Parga is mainland Greece and Paxos is a small island off the south coast of Corfu.
Well, we went on the cruise thinking that it was going to be an hour and a half max to the islands but we were sooooo wrong. The trip ended up taking 4hrs to get to the first island, where the only thing to do was to get on a coach for an hour to see around the island. Great! we thought, more traveling.
We then got on the boat again for another hour to the main land and it was a nightmare. While on this boat full of old aged Germans we were constantly being starred at.. Anyway, we got to the second island and the only thing to do was to sit on the beach, which we did for half an hour before we started burning to a crisp. So we went and had a drink in the shade, then got on the boat early to get a good seat to start the 3-4 hour journey back.

While on this long and most boring day trip I decided I'm going to start up my own business. More information on this will come soon.. It was an awful day! so we recommend if you do book that particular day trip, make sure you take a book or something..

Corfu : Day Four

Today, I got up late again. We decided to go to Kassiopi which is a small fishing village down the coast only 15 minutes away. Jim said he would take us and pick us up which was good as it saved us an hour long trip on a local bus.
We got there and had a look around in the many shops. We walked around the port and found a small dusty pathway. Angela said she had been before and there was a small beach at the end of the path. So we went in search of the beach, but came to a dead end. It has been 2 years since Angela had been down this way.
We headed back for the town and I found a little off road path, asked Angela to hang on while I went to investigate. I found a little beach which we had to climb down to using the cliff rocks which was a little exciting. We sat off there for about 45 minutes, Angela was hungry so we went in search of some food.

We got back to the town and went to sit in one of the places that was right next to the water. I was nice. We had a giro, chips and tatziki which we shared. Then we went round the port the other way to see what we could find. It turned out to be another beach and this time I went for a swim. The water was FREEZING! but felt good after being in that hot sun all day. After a while it was time to go as Jim was picking us up at the top of the town at 5:30pm.
On the way back we bought a few presents for family. The rest of this evening I have been setting up my Mums computer and writing instructions on how to use it as they both have TechnoFear. I have also uploaded some of my photos to my Flickr account. They are just of my Mums place and a few other bits and pieces.

Corfu : Day One

Woke up today at 1pm. Corfu is only 2 hours ahead of the UK and today was a lazy day. Just have a look around, find our feet and then decide what to do.
Pancakes and sausage was for breakfast thanks to my Mum. We got changed and went for a walk to see what things were available to us. For the rest of the afternoon we sat in the sun reading. Yes! I said reading. Since working at CDL I haven't been able to read a book due to all the driving I do. The book I'm reading is "V for Vendetta" by Steve Moore.
We took my Mum and Jim out for dinner to the local Chinese restaurant to say thank you for having us. It was really nice considering its in the middle of a small town in Corfu. We came home early as we were still tired but I enjoyed our lazy day.

Holiday! Celebrate!

I left work at 4:30pm today (which makes change), usually I don't finish work until after 6pm but tonight I'm flying to Corfu for a week to see my Mum and Step Dad. They live in a small town called "Acharavi" which is in the north of the island and I'm going with my little sister.
I got home just after 5:30pm, just need to iron some clothes and have a bath. Andy ironed my clothes for me as I was running a little late. Something very special happened today, but I shall save that special news for when I get back home.
Now ready for going, I packed the car as I had to get to my sisters house for 7:30pm so that Pat can take us to the airport (Manchester). We checked into the flight and where promptly told the flight was running an hour late, so we rang our Mum to tell her so she could have an extra hour in bed.
The flight was cold and cramped and we managed to get moved away from a screaming toddler, thank god! We arrived in Corfu at 5:20am and they were both there waiting for us. We all piled into "Piglet" the little van and drove home (which will take an hour).
Been up for a little over 24hours now, very tired...

Specialty & Fine Food Fair : Edinburgh (Day Two)

We got up at 9:00am to go and get our continental breakfast and after a night of drinks (which I'm not used to) I was starving. Angela on the other hand didn't feel to good, but to be honest she doesn't drink, much like me. After breakfast we got changed into our smart attire to go and check out this food fair. I got us to the City Centre again which wasn't a problem but once there we couldn't get to the Corn Exchange due to a lot of one way roads.

Eventually we got there and to our surprise it was the smallest fair we have ever been to. There was no more then 40 stands in the room and only two chocolatiers. To find a chocolate supplier was the main reason we went. Anyway, we went around the room in search of those extra treats for the hampers and found a few good items that we are going to research a little more.
A few of the stalls didn't have websites! And who stupidly forgot her business cards? Yes me! What an idiot, but I can contact them through the information we acquired from them. Within an hour we had finished doing what we went to do and decided to go home early. On the way back there was a lot of traffic so it took a lot longer to get home. I dropped my sister back at her house and carried onto mine. I got in for 20:00pm, just in time to see Andy for an hour and a half before we went to work. To finish off the Scottish weekend I watched the film "Braveheart", which is a great film.

All in all I enjoyed the drive and the weekend in Edinburgh and would recommend anyone to go. I would like to go back again, but with Andy to do the site seeing as Edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities I have been to. The architecture was fantastic, well what I saw of it and I will return to see more.

Specialty & Fine Food Fair : Edinburgh (Day One)

My little sister is in the middle of starting up her own company called "Wicked Wicker" which is a contempory hamper company, very soon to be launched. We went to Edinburgh to see if we could find any last extra special items for the hampers.

We left on Saturday afternoon at 1:00pm. M58, M6, A74, A702 was the route we took. Angela took the first part of the drive and we took my car. Half way we stopped at a service station to have a break and get some food to re-charge our batteries then it was my turn to finish off this long journey.
We got into Edinburgh City Centre at about 17:45pm and proceeded to get lost. We asked various strangers how to get to Newhaven as we were to stay in the Premier Lodge. The first person we asked sent us in the direction from which we came. After a while we stopped off at a shop to ask someone else for more directions and they sent us back in the direction we where originally going and eventually we found the hotel.

We got changed and went in search of the restaurant "La Tasca". With the help of a cabby we arrived at our table 20 minutes late. The food was very good, along with the bottle of wine we had. Once we had finished our meal we went in search of more drinks and music. Again we had to ask the locals for some advice on where the best bars where. We found a place called "MadDog" which was ok but didn't provide the atmosphere we wanted, so we asked the DJ where the best place to go. We walked half way across town to find a club called "Faith" which looked and sounded ok from the outside. 1:00am came and we had enough, we were tired from the long journey, the drinks and dancing so we went in search of a taxi which actually took us 1 hour to find. During this time we thought it was best to walk back to where we where dropped off by the cabby. A good night was had!

<< div >> Nightmare

I am currently working on a website for a Wedding Photographer and I have been having nightmare problems with my divs. Bearing in mind I'm not the best at CSS but I do crave to become a lot better than I am. (who doesn't)..
Any way to get the look I wanted I had to absolute position these two div's as I wanted one div to sit behind the other. The div that is to sit behind (in the code) actually has to be above the div that sits in front, which is not the problem, the pages look fantastic in IE but in Mozilla the image doesn't line up to the bottom of the front << div >> like it does in IE. I'm going to keep looking into this problem, but if any one has any idea's of what the problem could be I would be grateful for a little help.
You can find a sample of the page by clicking the following link. Sample page.

May Day Bank Holiday

FRIDAY:
The Plumber arrived at 8:30am to move the washing machine, re-route the pipes and put in the new radiator. He was finished by the time I got home, but Andy and I were very pleased with his work. He also removed pipes that we didn't need instead of just leaving them there. It was a job well done. We will need him back to connect the new sink, taps and shower once we have decided on what kind of shower we want.

SATURDAY:
Another early start for me as Andy has been on nights and stayed up on the Friday for the Plumber. The Joiner turned up at 8:30am and got me started on removing any nails that were left over in the wood we removed from taking down the wash room wall. His job was to block up/stud 3 door ways and create a new door way. The door we picked for this door way had already got a lock in it. The door is from one of the upstairs rooms, we had them all dipped at the end of last year. Now we just need to add the furniture for the door, 2 chrome handles, and a thing to tidy up the lock, not too sure what they are called.

SUNDAY:
We had a BBQ. About 20 or so peeps turned up. The weather didn't turn out to be as good as hoped, but once we got the wood burner on the go using the left over wood from the struts it was nice and toasty in the garden. All of the food went which was good, it only left the plates and tables to be tidied up (but I left that till the next day). The last person left at 2:00am. It was a good BBQ..

MONDAY:
Clean up day from the BBQ, the cats had a field day with the left over pork chops, burgers and belly pork. We just chilled out for the rest of the day, but thank god I took Tuesday off to.
After the BBQ I have two bags of cans and two bags of glass which is ready to be recycled.

TUESDAY:
The Kitchen Designer turned up at 8:30am and left within the 1/2 hour. He just measured up, didn't give anything any and left, saying that we should have a quote by the end of the week. Which will give us a starting point I suppose.
12:00pm the Window Fitter arrived, and now the final window is correct and in place. It looks boss!
12:30pm the Roofer turned up (didn't expect him today) but now the leak we had in the front should have gone and the waterbut has been moved to the back garden.
